ABOUT improve your run
Improve Your Run provides coaching for runners who want to improve their fitness, technique, or race times. I train runners at distances from 2K to the Marathon, with a specialist focus on the 5K and Parkrun.
Alongside 1‑to‑1 coaching in Greater Manchester, I offer a range of online coaching plans for runners who prefer remote support. These can be found on the Pricing page.
Follow me on social media for regular training insights and examples of the coaching I deliver each week. You’ll also find articles and tips in the blog section of this site.

the coach

I’m Greg, the coach at Improve Your Run. I have a Degree in Sport Science with Coaching, and the UK Athletics LIRF and CIRF qualifications. I’m an active club runner with experience across events from the 800m on the track to the Marathon on the road.
Although I coach a range of distances, I specialise in 5K and Parkrun performance. I’ve completed almost 100 Parkruns, with 28 finishes between 18–19 minutes and a personal best of 17:40. This experience helps me understand exactly what it takes to run your best over 5K.
I know how rewarding it feels to run a new PB and to feel stronger through consistent training. My coaching focuses on helping runners experience that same satisfaction, whether that’s improving technique, building speed, or targeting a specific event.
PARKRUN

If you are looking to break the next minute barrier for your Parkrun, then contact me so that I can help you achieve this! You can look at the Testimonials page to see clients who have improved their Parkrun time with me.
I post Parkrun Reviews in the Blog section with the intention of helping Parkrunners find out more information from a participant's perspective. My Social Media also has content specifically related to Parkrun.
FAQ
Q1: Why would I benefit from a Running Coach and why should I choose you to coach me? A: A running coach gives you structure, accountability, and a personalised plan so that you improve faster and avoid injury. As a Qualified England Athletics Coach (CIRF) with over 10 years of racing and Parkrun experience, I specialise in helping runners get quicker at 5K and other distances. My coaching centres on personalised training plans, smart pacing guidance, motivation, and consistent support. I also offer advice and practical tips on running form.
Q2: Do you have any examples of improving other Runners? A: Yes - you can see real examples on my Client Success page.
Q3: I'm new to running, can you help me improve or do you only coach those who are actively running already? A: Absolutely - I work with runners of all levels. All I ask for is commitment and consistency, and I’ll tailor your training to your current fitness to allow you to progress at a realistic pace while still seeing positive results. If you’re new to running, I’m always happy to discuss any concerns and guide you through the early stages with clear, structured coaching.
Q4: How long do 1-2-1 or group sessions last? A: All of my training sessions will include a warm up, cool down and a main training effort. In total the whole sessions can last anywhere from 35-55 minutes, it just depends what the focus is for that day. For less experienced or less fit runners, I don't see the point in dragging out a session to close to an hour for the sake of it, as the volume that I would have to set would be too high for their current fitness level/experience.
Q5: If I am interested in a more affordable option than paying for a 1-2-1 coaching session or a paid plan, is there anything else available? A: Yes, I offer "solo" plans which are considerably cheaper as they do not include in person coaching with me. They do include all the other benefits though, like whatsapp support. I can do a small group session which would also bring the cost down if you have friends or family you would like to train alongside. Group Sessions would be at a normal session rate, divided by the number of people (maximum of 5 people).
Q6: Do you only offer running coaching in the Greater Manchester area? A: Whilst I do stick to the Greater Manchester (GM) area in general, if we are able to work out a time for a session that suits us both, you are within an hours drive, and you are willing to cover my petrol costs to travel then I am willing to coach outside of GM. I have recently been coaching a client in North Liverpool for example.
Q7: What if I live nowhere near Greater Manchester, is there still anything you can offer me to help me improve at running? A: My Pricing page has "solo" plans on offer. You can get everything that I offer in my usual plans except for the in person 1-2-1 coaching. This includes whatsapp support, as well as free weekly content that I post on my Social Media and Website (I regularly add blog posts).
Q8: I have not found the answer to what I wanted to know. What should I do? A: If you have not found the information you were looking for, then please feel free to contact me using my form (see the contact button in Footer) and I will get back to you at my earliest opportunity.
