ABOUT ME

I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BSc Hons in Sport Science with Coaching, and I am a committed runner. A few years after finishing University, I decided to switch to running as my main hobby after no longer feeling the same desire to play Sports like Football.

Back when I played 11-a-side Football, and still had some hair!

As a result, I joined an Athletics Club and now compete in various races, with the 800m track race being my favoured event in the summer and 5K/Park Run being a frequent event during winter. In the last few years I have increased my mileage and completed several Half Marathons as well as my first Marathon (in Seville, Spain) in Feb 2023.

In 2019 I obtained the LIRF coaching qualification through UK Athletics, and following that, I then completed the CIRF coaching qualification in 2020. After a delay of a few years (due to the COVID era and life circumstances) my aim now is to coach and help runners in person, as well as provide advice and insights from a personal point of view through posting regular content on this website and social media platforms.

Below are some of my best running times in the popular distances:

Mile - 4:46

Park Run - 17:40

10K - 37:04

Half Marathon - 82:51

Marathon - 3 hrs 32 secs

ABOUT IMPROVE YOUR RUN

The Improve Your Run website has been set up to provide advice for runners whose aim is to improve in distances from as short as the 2K Military Fitness Test (SCR) right up to the Marathon. The site also provides details related to my coaching which will be aimed at committed runners of varying standard, who wish to improve.

There are many different types of runners out there with different goals and targets. Some people may want to run more frequently with the aim of entering a specific event like a Charity 10K, whilst others may have their sights on a Park Run PB. You may even need to improve your running times in order to pass the entry requirements for a certain profession like the Military or Police.

Whilst a lot of people enjoy running simply as a hobby, there are many out there who would like to improve their running performance by bringing their times down for the feeling of accomplishment it can provide. Achieving a new Personal Best (PB) is a great motivation for runners across all events.

This site has been set up to help you achieve those aims by providing regular content to encourage you to fulfil your potential. You can also see what coaching packages I offer. I know myself that it is easy to write ourselves off at times by thinking we can’t improve much beyond a certain level, but in the last couple of years my experiences in running have made me realise that we can achieve far more than we initially think is possible for ourselves.

To reach our potential at running I believe there are 2 key principles. The ability to train consistently, and the desire & drive to work hard to improve ourselves by being committed.

I do appreciate that people have varying desires to improve and that is understandable. But the message I most want to get across is that if you can give more than what you are currently giving, whether that is in effort during your runs, or the overall time you can dedicate to running, then it is inevitable that you will be rewarded with progression and improvement.

I hope you find the website useful, and you will find that the site will be updated regularly with new content and information. Please also see the other Improve Your Run platforms – Facebook and Instagram.
